The camp atmosphere

Mawe Tented Camp operates like a bush encampment, but with a finish level that places it in the "4-star tented camp" category. The tents measure 8 metres long by 4 metres wide and open widely onto the savannah and river. The ambient sound is that of birds at dawn, occasionally a herd passing through, and the crackling of the campfire in the evening. Service remains discreet; the local staff know the terrain and wildlife of the area well.

The tents

The camp has twelve tents in total: nine Standard, two family and one Honeymoon. Each tent sits on polished wooden flooring and features solid furniture, with a table, chairs, safe and storage. The sleeping configuration adapts to your needs: king-size bed or twin beds, Single, Double or Triple arrangements depending on requirements. Large windows open onto the Serengeti plains and Ngarenanyuki River.

Private bathrooms include a shower, washbasin and flush toilets. The entire camp runs on solar energy.

Dining and services

A lounge bar and restaurant, also set up under canvas, form the common areas. The kitchen alternates Tanzanian local dishes and international recipes. For safari days, the team prepares picnic baskets to take into the bush. As night falls, a campfire is set up to extend the evening under the stars.

On request, the camp organises shuttle transfers from the Serengeti airstrip.

Location and access

The camp is located in the central part of Serengeti National Park, about thirty minutes' drive from the park's airstrip. Three Tanzanian airports serve the region: Arusha, Dar es Salaam and Kilimanjaro. The majority of travellers reach the Serengeti by domestic flight from Arusha, which is faster than driving.

When to visit

Two windows stand out for visiting the Serengeti from the camp:

• January-February: calving season in the south-central part of the park, high concentration of predators
• June-October: dry season, easier viewing and northbound migration passage

As the Serengeti is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, visitor numbers can be high in peak season; it's best to book in advance.
