Our story
Détours Tanzanie was born from a deep attachment to the African continent and a simple desire: to guide English-speaking travellers through Tanzania and Zanzibar with authenticity and flexibility, away from rigid itineraries.
The agency is the continuation of Galago Expeditions, founded in the 1990s in Arusha by Jean-Luc and Carlo. For over three decades, their team develops an in-depth knowledge of the terrain, from the Rift Valley to the Serengeti plains, and becomes a reference for English-speaking travelers seeking East Africa. In 2023, after dedicating most of their lives to Galago, Jean-Luc and Carlo pass the torch to a new generation. The agency becomes Détours Tanzanie and embarks on a new chapter.
Frédéric leads the team in Arusha. A born traveler, he had already founded an agency in South Korea ten years earlier and brings his commitment to bespoke experiences. Alongside him, Sylvain, founder of the Détours brand already present in Madagascar, Mauritania, and Algeria, supports the transition with his experience of vast African landscapes. On the ground, English-speaking guides like Ally design each safari with the same attention to detail: listen, understand, adjust.

Yes, 7 days a week throughout your stay. You'll receive a local WhatsApp number + a dedicated emergency contact. Our on-site team can assist within hours in case of unexpected events (cancelled flight, illness, weather changes).
Your payments are 100% protected by the Professional Solidarity Association for Tourism. If a service provider (hotel, transport, etc.) or the agency fails, your funds are refunded. This is a mandatory guarantee for any French travel agency — Nomadays benefits from it across its entire network.
Yes, as much as possible. Changes made more than 30 days before departure are generally free of charge (excluding hotel rate differences). As your departure approaches, some bookings become less flexible — we always inform you of your options before confirmation.
Payment is made in full in France, in euros, with Nomadays — secured by credit card or bank transfer. You have no payments to make en Tanzanie: everything is pre-arranged (accommodations, transfers, guides, activities). You just need to budget for meals outside the itinerary and personal purchases.
