Budget and Currency Exchange

- Bring US Dollars and Euros in cash or traveler's cheques.
- Pack large denominations (50 or 100) for national park entrance fees. For everything else, use smaller bills (1, 5, 10, 20). Banknotes issued after 2004 are recommended; older notes may be refused.
- Dollars and Euros are easily exchanged in Arusha and Moshi.
- Credit cards are increasingly accepted.
- Tipping is a cherished national custom driven more by goodwill than obligation. The customary amounts are approximately: 25 USD per person for a safari (around 10 days) and 50 USD for Kilimanjaro climbing. Plan for 75 USD total in tips to distribute at the end of your stay.
