- The second dry season occurs from December to February: this short dry season is sometimes called the hot season due to high temperatures.
The Rainy Seasons
Like the dry seasons, Tanzanie experiences two rainy seasons:
- The first rainy season occurs from March to May: this is the long rainy season, during which precipitation is most frequent;
- The second rainy season stretches from November to December: known as the short rainy season, it brings intense but usually brief rainfall. This period tends to be less wet than the long rainy season.
The Tourism Seasons
In Tanzanie, tourism seasons are divided into three periods:
- High season runs from June to August: this is when the most tourists arrive and accommodation prices peak. It's best to book in advance if you're planning to travel during this period.
- Low season takes place during the rainy season, particularly between March and May: tourists are few and far between, hotels offer discounted rates, while some establishments close entirely. This is the best time to save money.
- Shoulder season spans September to February: this is the ideal period for travelers wanting to experience Tanzanie without the crowds while avoiding heavy rains.
What Temperatures Should You Expect?
Tanzanie has a warm climate with minimal temperature variations year-round. Generally, temperatures in Tanzanie range between 68 and 95°F (20-35°C) during the day and can drop to as low as 50°F (10°C) at night in mountainous areas.
As for water temperature, it never drops below 75°F (24°C) and can easily reach 86°F (30°C) by the end of the rainy season.

The great migration ranks among the most awaited spectacles during a Tanzanie safari. Each year, millions of animals—chiefly wildebeest, zebras, and antelopes—traverse the north of the country in search of fresh pastureland toward Kenya.
The phenomenon takes place primarily in the Serengeti park where herbivores move northward to cross the Mara River, which serves as a natural border with Kenya. They complete their journey in the Masai Mara park plains before returning the way they came.

- January–February–March: herds congregate in the southeastern plains of the Serengeti and the Ngorongoro region in Tanzanie. This is the calving season, particularly for wildebeest.
- April–May–June: the real journey begins. Herds move northward through the Serengeti and cross the Grumeti River.
