Another advantage of online booking is the ability to compare rental agency prices with just a few clicks. This helps you control your budget and avoid renting a vehicle below or above your expectations.

Money and time savings

By booking your vehicle online, you benefit from better rates (sometimes dozens of euros cheaper), plus precious time savings—with part of the process already completed online.

On-site

Secure transaction

Vehicle type and price

Your vehicle choice depends on the type of safari you want. For a simple half-day excursion or a multi-day self-drive (covering several wildlife parks with long distances between locations), your comfort and option needs will differ.

The 4x4

Designed to handle rough terrain, the 4x4 is ideal for safari, even in muddy conditions after heavy rains! One of the most commonly used models is the Toyota Land Cruiser, available in short-wheelbase (5-seat) or long-wheelbase (7-seat) versions. Some models, like the Land Cruiser Hardtop, feature a pop-up roof, perfect for wildlife viewing. Pricing is around €159 in high season and €129 in low season.

The minibus

The minibus offers a good balance between cost and comfort for moderate budgets (since the cost can be split among more passengers). However, its ground clearance is lower than a 4x4, making it harder to maneuver, especially during the rainy season. This vehicle type is therefore better suited for group safaris during the dry season.

Rental pricing can also vary based on 3 other criteria.

1. Mileage

The choice between limited or unlimited mileage depends on your itinerary. For a road trip or safari covering a vast area, unlimited mileage is preferable, as kilometers add up quickly. Since Tanzanian roads can be challenging, good insurance is essential. Agencies typically offer several options, with the most common being CDP (Collision Damage Protection) and theft coverage (TP).

However, well-known international brands (like Kayak or RentalCars) exist, as do local agencies, such as Karibu Kwetu Zanzibar or Green Motion. At airports

The country's main airports have rental agencies, often located in terminals or nearby. These include Julius Nyerere International Airport (Dar es Salaam) and Kilimanjaro International Airport (between Arusha and Moshi).

Where to return the vehicle?

Vehicle return must comply with rental contract terms, meaning:

• Respect the return time. Some tolerance is sometimes granted, but beyond 30 to 60 minutes, late fees typically apply.
• Respect the fuel level: unless you pre-paid for a full tank, the vehicle must be returned with the same fuel level as at pickup.

Otherwise, you can get one from the Department of Licence (€15). Zanzibar's main roads are well-maintained, making driving fairly easy.
